Vietnam to attend World Chess Olympiad

Ten Vietnamese chess masters will attend the 2010 World Chess Olympiad held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia from September 20 to October 4.
Participants at the event are Le Quang Liem, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Dao Thien Hai, Nguyen Anh Dung, Nguyen Duc Hoa, Hoang Thi Bao Tram, Nguyen Thi Thanh An, Pham Le Thao Nguyen, Hoang Thi Nhu Y and Nguyen Thi Mai Hung.

Le Quang Liem wins 2nd Dragon Capital chess open

After playing 9 matches at the 2nd Dragon Capital Vietnam chess open, the host country’s international Grandmaster Le Quang Liem became champion.
Seeded number one in the tournament, Liem, put in an excellent performance with 8 points in 9 matches (7 wins and 2 draws).
The runner-up was another Vietnamese International Grandmaster, Dao Thien Hai and third place was taken by Tu Hoang Thong, also from Vietnam.

Twins open academy for youngsters

HA NOI Twin brother of International Grand Master (IGM) Tu Hoang Thong 37, has set up a chess academy for aspiring youngsters. Tu Hoang Thai, the younger of the twins, opened the academy earlier this year with the help of his brother who has been playing chess for 28 years.

Ho Chi Minh City won the men’s and women’s competitions at the National Team Chess Championships in the Central coastal city of Nha Trang on Sunday.
In the women’s team, Le Kieu Thien Kim, Nguyen Thi Thanh An, Quynh Anh, Ngoc Tu and Phuong Dung helped Ho Chi Minh City win the trophy.
On the men’s side, Tu Hoang Thong and Nguyen Thanh Son won gold medals, despite being without International Grand Master Le Quang Liem.
