The Directorate for Roads has submitted a national strategy proposal to ensure road-traffic safety through 2020 to the Ministry of Transport. With a total capital of VND 16 trillion (US$761.9 million), the strategy will aim to reduce the number of accidents and fatalities to eight per 100,000 people by 2020. It also targets upgrading 80 per cent of highways so they meet international standards on road-traffic safety.
