Addressing the launching ceremony, Dinh La Thang, member of the Central Party Committee and Minister of Transport, praised the participation of the Youth Union in ensuring traffic safety.

He also urged the Youth Union to continue training officials and members about traffic safety and raise awareness of the issue among young people.

According to statistics, traffic accidents claim 30-35 lives in Vietnam each day, mainly road traffic accidents (90%), and 45% involve young people in the 20-34 age group.

Therefore, the month-long campaign will focus on young people and teenagers, who are often the cause of traffic accidents.

In response to Traffic Safety Month, the Youth Union at all levels has organised many practical activities, particularly training young people in traffic safety and encouraging them to promote safe practices.

The Youth Union Central Committee also called on each Youth Union member to set a good example for obeying traffic laws and actively ensuring traffic safety.

After the launch, young people in the province took part in activities related to traffic safety including a talk about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and a safe driving contest.

This year’s programme, co-organised by the Youth Union Central Committee, the National Traffic Safety Committee and the Ha Nam provincial People’s Committee, is in response to the United Nations Global Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020.
