Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the event along with Lao Cai provincial officials, ministry and industry leaders and representatives from central agencies, the army and security forces.
At the ceremony, Deputy PM Phuc affirmed the key role of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) and the significant contributions young Vietnamese people have made to building and protecting the country.
He urged the HCYU to promote its traditions, as well as its pioneering and creative spirit, in contributing to socio-economic development and ensuring social welfare, particularly for building new rural areas in Lao Cai, Quang Binh and Bac Lieu provinces. He also asked HCYU members to be active in movements to build and defend the Fatherland and prepared for the 10th National HCYU Congress.
Participants at the ceremony attended the inauguration of the Tan Hong commune Cultural House and a new road connecting Ban Lang and Lang Moi communes. Nearly 500 poor and social beneficiary families in Bat Xat district were also given free medical exams and medicine on the occasion.
A number of activities were also held the same day in Bac Can, Soc Trang, Quang Binh, Hau Giang, and Da Nang provinces in response to 2012 Youth Month.
The theme of the 2012 Youth Month is “Youth Joining Hands to Build New Rural Areas”. During the month, young people will work together with communities across the country to contribute to socio-economic development, help create jobs, promote national culture, and raise awareness of good traffic manners and safety .
