PANO - A seminar titled “Eastern front – from Xuan Loc Campaign to historical Ho Chi Minh Campaign” was held on April 24 th in the southern Province of Dong Nai by the Defence Ministry in association with the Party Provincial Committee.
The seminar was one of a change of events to observe the 37 th anniversary of complete liberation of the South and national unity (April 30th, 1975).
Present at the seminar were a large number of formal and incumbent top military and civilian officials, including ex-State President, General Le Duc Anh, Permanent Member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy-Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant-General Nguyen Thanh Cung, Secretary of the Dong Nai Provincial Committee of Party, Tran Dinh Thanh, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, Le Hoang Quan, former Deputy-Defence Minister, Lieutenant-General Nguyen Thoi Bung, Vice-Director of the General Department of Politics, Lieutenant-General Nguyen Tuan Dung, as well as historical live witnesses and more than 200 experts.
Addressing the seminar, Senior Lieutenant-General Nguyen Thanh Cung highlighted the scale of significance of the Xuan Loc victory and the eastern front in the 1975 Spring Great Triumph.
During the seminar, more than 20 scientific reports reviewed the campaign as well as clarified a number of issues, including smart and active leadership of the Party Central Department (the agency representing the Party Central Committee to directly lead the forces in southern Vietnam during the war), the Military Commission and High Command of the South; development steps in operational tactics; close and effective coordination among friendly units and forces, as well as experiences and lessons drawn from the victory but useful for the current causes of national construction and defence.
According to delegates, fighting was fierce in the eastern front and Xuan Loc. Many soldiers and people sacrificed themselves for the Xuan Loc victory, which then created high spirit and a new position for our forces in all fronts and also opened an important door to Sai Gon.
37 years had passed and the old battlefield of Xuan Loc-Long Khanh now became a prosperous urban area with the development of various industries and services, Secretary of the Long Khanh Town Party Committee said at the seminar.
“People in Long Khanh Town will never forget the sacrifices of our fathers and brothers, who laid down their lives in the land. Being proud of the victory and traditions, we will try our best to build our town strong in both defence and economy,” the local official stressed. Translated by Thu Nguyen
