Five days after agreeing to take a break and receiving VND10 million (US$480) for separation, Nguyen Van Thong, 43, returned to the house of his girlfriend Nguyen Thi Hue, 49, in the morning of Friday to ask her to cohabit again.
Their argument broke out and Thong struck her with hammer on her head. She fell to the ground unconscious. He didn’t stop there and kept on assaulting her by cutting twice on her throat before he ran away.
The woman was then taken to Gia Dinh Hospital in the city and has been in a come since, said Tran Phi Khanh, 63, who is brother in law of Hue and a witness of the case.
Before the accident took place, Hue was sitting in her house on Nguyen Cong Tru Street in Binh Thanh District, where she runs an internet shop, Khanh said.
Khanh added Hue and Thong had cohabited for two years before they separated each other a year ago. Just a day later, they joined together. On July 29, they agreed to part and five days later the man came back and caused the incident.
Doctors said Hue suffered two cuts, one is 10cm long and 3cm wide and the other 3cm long. The wounds damaged her trachea and neck cartilage.
Police has been hunting for the man.
