The Bac Giang People’s Committee has just approved the proposal from Wintek Vietnam Ltd. to raise its capital to US$1.12billion.
Earlier, Wintek, a leading Taiwanese company in producing touch screen, invested some US$250million to build touch screens for Ipads and Iphones as well as LMCs and LCDs for T.V. and computers in the Quang Chau Industrial Zone in Bac Giang Province.
According to local authorities, Winteck Vietnam is a success story in the locality. As soon as the company received the investment license, it implemented the project and after 12 months, it continued to invest in the second phase with an additional capital of about US$870million.
Local officials said that Wintek’s project could draw some 10,000 local labourers when it is finished and put into operation and that it will contribute billions of dollars to the local export turnover.
They also said that, with Wintek’s additional capital, Bac Giang had entered the list of localities, which drew the most FDI in the first quarter of 2012.
