HCMC – The Vietnam Marine Economic Forum (VMEF) 2012, which will address marine spatial planning, will take place in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province on Thursday and Friday.

It is an annual event organized by the Vietnam Association of Foreign-invested Enterprises in coordination with the General Department of Sea and Islands of Vietnam under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

The event aims to collect ideas about maritime strategy for the country between now and 2020, set out policies for marine economic development and stimulate local and international investment projects in the field of maritime.

Some 200 delegates of ministries, state agencies of costal provinces in the Central and South, research institutes, universities, industry enterprises and media firms are expected to attend VMEF.

International experts will share their experiences of marine spatial planning and make suggestions for major areas such as HCMC and the key Southern Economic region as well as the coastal areas in the Mekong Delta.

As part of VMEF, senior experts will take part in a roundtable discussion to map out the development strategy for local coastal economic zones on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Economic Zone Authority under the Ministry of Investment and Planning will make a presentation on the pilot development strategy for economic zones in the near future and collect ideas about the issue from participating experts, administrators and industry businesses.
