The Lao province of Luang Namtha need to expand bilateral cooperation with Vietnam’s Vinh Phuc province to boost socio-economic development, said Lao Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh.
He made the request at a meeting with a visiting delegation from Vinh Phuc province, headed by Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Trinh Dinh Dung, in Vientiane on January 15.
Dung informed PM Bouphavanh of the outcomes of the delegation’s visit to Luang Namtha, as well as the two provinces’ recent cooperation results and plans for the years to come.
As Luang Namtha’s twinned province, Vinh Phuc recently helped the Lao province build a number of schools and annually granted scholarships to Lao students to study at Vietnamese universities and colleges.
Vinh Phuc provided the Lao province with US$1 million to finance the construction of a friendship culture palace that was inaugurated on January 12.
Vinh Phuc also established cooperative ties with the Lao northern provinces of Udomxay and Phongsaly and gave each of them US$100,000 to build schools and assisted a number of students from the provinces to pursue study in Vietnam.
