In 2011, the southern province of Vinh Long expanded 12 typical co-operative models in the fields of agriculture – seafood, industry-small scale industry, transport, construction and credit. These co-operatives have good capacity in management, operation and finance and achieved effectiveness in production, business and service.
In the agriculture-seafood field, numerous co-operatives are confident in investing capital, linking production and consumption with enterprises, participating in industrial and agricultural stimulation programs, producing under the standard of VietGap and Global Gap such as Nam Roi My Hoa Grapefruit Binh Minh District, Thanh Loi Vegetable, Tan Thanh Sweet Potato and Chanh An Agriculture Co-operative.
Vung Liem and Long Ho Communes, which have strengths in small scale industry, took advantage of local materials and labour skills to develop new co-operative models such as Nhan Tri and Dong Tien Co-operative, expert in producing garment and textile products, handicraft products from coconut palm, sedge and water hyacinth materials.
Vinh Long Province has 90 co-operatives and two co-operative complexes with 6,521 members, attracting nearly VND 283 billion of investment capital. The province is striving to build from 10 to 15 strong and comprehensive co-operative models, raising the excellent co-operative rate to 70 percent and reducing the weak co-operative rate to below five percent.
