Vietnam's youngest deputy minister appointed

Nguyen Thanh Nghi, vice headmaster and vice Party secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Architecture University, was Friday appointed deputy minister of the Ministry of Construction. He becomes the youngest official holding the post in Vietnam.

Nguyen Thanh Nghi is the son of the incumbent Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
The decision of appointment is approved by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and becomes effective as from November 11, 2011. The Ministry of Construction is now governed by minister Trinh Dinh Dung and six deputy ministers.
The 35-year-old official from the Ca Mau Province in the Mekong Delta has academic title of Doctor of Philosophy.
In January this year, he was voted as the alternate member of the Party Central Committee and becomes the youngest member in the agency.
