Vietnam’s former stars held a team of Liverpool ex-stars 1-1 in Hanoi on Friday in the second match the friendly tournament Masters Cup got underway.

The Liverpool veterans took the lead with a close range shot by Don Hutchison after four minutes but Hong Son helped the Vietnamese former stars equalize the score just one minute after the break.

Both sides played enthusiastically and in high spirits, making the match pretty exciting although audience was sparse at the 40,000 plus-seat My Dinh Stadium. High ticket prices kept the number of spectators down to a few thousand.

On Thursday, the Vietnamese players suffered a 1-3 loss to former stars of Manchester United.

VnExpress reports that the Masters Cup is a tournament for veterans of the English Premier League. It was held for 11 consecutive years in England before the organizers began to hold it in Malaysia the past three years.

This year, the organizers wanted to hold it outside Malaysia; and Vietnam was chosen above Thailand to host the event.
