The Vietnam Administration of Tourism set a target to earn a turnover of VND 110 trillion, contributing 4.6% to the country’s GDP by welcoming around 5.5 million foreign visitors and serving for 30 million domestic tourists in 2011.
In 2010, Vietnam received 5 million international tourists and 28 million domestic visitors. However, there were only 15% of foreign visitors who were return visitors to the country, according to the Vietnam Administration of Tourism.
In recent years, Vietnam’s tourism sector has made achievements in promoting and developing tourist products and services from home and abroad. However, there are still many tourism potentials, which need to be explored further.
One of the shortcomings in developing tourism in Vietnam is the low levels of cooperation between relevant agencies, provinces and companies in terms of improving the quality of tourist services and competing with other countries.
To develop tourism in the coming time, the tourism sector needs to launch more tourism promotion campaigns in foreign countries and improve the public awareness of protecting the environment and landscapes.
