The Hanoitimes - Vietnam ’s second satellite, VINASAT 2, has taken up its position in orbit after successfully being launched two weeks ago.

The Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) said o­n May 30 that Lockheed Martin, the US company that built the satellite, will hand over control of it to VNPT in July.

The 300 million USD VINASAT-2 uses A2100 technology, o­ne of the most modern satellite technologies currently in use, and has a lifespan of 15 years.

It was fired into orbit from the launch pad in Kourou in Guyana , South America, at 5:13 am o­n May 16 ( Vietnam time).
