Seafood companies are trying to boost their exports in the last three months of the year, to meet the target of $6 billion.
Ca Mau Province is the biggest seafood exporter in the country. 36 seafood companies in the province are working to increase seafood productivity by the end of the year.
Le Van Diep, Deputy General Director of Minh Phu Seafood Corporation said that the company exported 19,000 tons of frozen shrimps to foreign countries such as the US, Japan, EU and South Korea, earning $299 million, an increase of 46 percent compared to the same period last year.
Ngo Thanh Linh, Deputy Head of Planning and Finance Division of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that since the beginning of the year, seafood export value has increased 15 percent compared to the same period last year.
The seafood export turnover in the province reached around $900 million in the first nine months of this year.
According to the department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Bac Lieu, Soc Trang and Kien Giang provinces, sugpo prawn export prices increased sharply, so farmers raked in higher profits.
Currently, shrimp prices are VND250,000 per kilogram.
Pangasius fish exports also saw a significant increase.
Dong Thap Province is leading in tra fish exports in the Mekong Delta provinces.
Pham Thien Nghia, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade in Dong Thap Province said this year, target for pangasius fish export is set for $320 million, but now seafood export turnover in the province has reached $332 million. Pangasius fish export turnover is expected to reach $390 million by the end of this year, Nghia said.
A representative of the People’s Committee in Tien Giang Province said that seafood export revenue reached $592 million in the first nine months of this year, achieving 102 percent of the target and an increase of 61 percent compared to the same period last year.
