BINH PHUOC – Kim Tin Group has operated the first phase of the Vietnam Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) manufacturing plant in Binh Phuoc Province’s Dong Phu District with an annual capacity of 80,000 cubic meters.
The plant worth over VND200 billion and covering 24 hectares is equipped with German technology, said the group chairman Nguyen Tien Hai.
Once the second phase of the plant is completed, its annual capacity will be doubled to 160,000 cubic meters. The plant’s output will help quench the thirst for plywood in the domestic market, which is mainly supplied by imports, Hai added.
The MDF import revenue of Vietnam in July this year hit US$10.44 million, up 4.4% month-on-month, taking the total import value in the first seven months of this year to about US$52 million.
Malaysia remains the biggest MDF provider who earned about US$20 million in exporting the product to Vietnam.
As a result, Kim Tin Group is planning to raise its annual capacity to 300,000 cubic meters by 2015 to cope with rising demand of domestic furniture makers.
The group is conducting a survey to grow material woods that will cover about 5,000 hectares in the province by that time. The afforestation project has been approved by the provincial government.
The group, comprising members operating in industrial production and welding material supply, manufactures over 40,000 tons of products per year to earn VND1.5 trillion a year.
