Nhan Dan – Vietnam has the fourth largest cargo fleet in Southeast Asia with 1,700 vessels, according to the Marine Administration of Vietnam (MAV).
Its total capacity is 7.4 million deadweight tonnes (DWT), ranking 60th among 152 countries in the world.
The MAV said the national fleet shipped 96 million tonnes of cargo in 2011, up 8% compared to the previous year.
The country’s shipping industry aims to increase the number of cargo vessels by 5-7% and shipment volume by 6-8% in 2012.
