Vietnamese press delegation visits factories and units of Lao People’s Army

PANO – A Vietnamese press delegation, led by Major General Le Phuc Nguyen, Editor-in-Chief of the People Army’s Newspaper, is on a working visit to Laos. On July 27th the delegation visited Thanva Factory, Lao cement Factories No1 and No2, under the military-run Agriculture and Industry Development Company, and Commando Regiment 497.

Lieutenant-Colonel Chantha Ly Vichit, Director of the Thanva Factory of the Lao General Department of Logistics, briefed the delegation the functions, tasks as well as the development of the unit. Established in 1975, the Factory is specialized in producing canvas shoes, backpacks, hammocks, blankets and other personal military equipment for the Lao People’s Army. Apart from producing military equipment, the company also manufactures high quality caps, shoes and fashion bags with beautiful designs for sale.

The Cement Factory No1 was built in 1991 with capacity of 100,000 tons per year while the No2 (1999) was designed to produce 300,000 tons a year. At present, Laos is carrying out the construction of the Cement Factory No3 to meet domestic demand.

At the visit to Commando Regiment 497, an elite and model unit in training and combat readiness of the Lao People’s Army, the Commander of the Regiment briefed the Vietnamese delegates its development over the past years. The delegates from press agencies of the Vietnam People’s Army visited accommodation of some units under the Regiment and enjoyed beautiful martial arts performances of staff and troops of Battalion 424.

Major-General Le Phuc Nguyen thanked staff and troops of Lao units for their warm welcome and sentiment to the Vietnamese delegation. Both two sides affirmed the close brotherhood of the Vietnam-Laos Parties, people and armies. In both wartime and peacetime, the faithful and pure solidarity between Vietnam and Laos has been continuously tightening and the present and future generations should take responsibility for promoting this special relationship.
