(VOV) - The Vietnamese embassy in Cuba on December 30 held a get-together for its staff and representatives from trade offices and news agencies, students, businesses and overseas Vietnamese to welcome the New Year 2012.
Addressing the event, the ambassador Vu Chi Cong reviewed major events in 2011, especially the success of the 11 th National Party Congress and the sixth Cuba Party Congress, which marked new turning points for each nation on the right track toward development and integration. The two congresses will help both countries protect their revolutionary fruits and advance the socialist path.
Mr Cong said that Vietnam still has to face major challenges in its development in 2012, and that Vietnamese people both at home and abroad should join hands to contribute to national construction and defense, as well as bolstering friendship and faithfulness between Vietnam and Cuba.
At the ceremony, the ambassador also granted certificates of merits and awards to Vietnamese students who excelled in their study in Cuba during the 2010-2011 academic year.
On the occasion, the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Chapter of the Vietnamese community in Cuba was established with Mai Thao, President of the Overseas Vietnamese Association elected as Chairman.
During the event, a special music programme was also held by Vietnamese students from different universities in Cuba.
