A slight rain did not prevent thousands from flocking to the concert at Lan Anh Club in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 10 even though each ticket cost up to VND2.5 million (US$120), half a month’s salary of many Vietnamese people.
Hung included in his show a wide range of music genres and tricks, namely Vietnamese pop and ballad songs that made his name, plays, English pieces, onstage flying, and especially a live butterfly release .
He also impressed his fans with an artificial river right on the stage during a performance that told the story of a breakup as well as with a dazzling laser display often seen in international concerts.
Music of the night was provided by a symphony orchestra of 42 instrumentalists together with another group of 10 players.
It is said that preparations for the live concert cost Hung as much as VND6 billion ($288,000), arguably the most expensive so far in Vietnamese showbiz.
Hung’s success as a singer is a classic tale of rags to riches as he started as a hairdresser before rising to be a real power in the entertainment industry.
