Scientists at the Chemistry and Material Institute under the Institute for Military Science and Technology have successfully produced a kind of paint able to absorb radar waves that are used to position and detect military targets.
The paint, which is named PD/RAP-MEH, is a class of radar absorbent material used in stealth technology to disguise a vehicle, weapon, or structure from radar detection, the Quan Doi Nhan Dan newspaper reported.
The armies of many other countries have also paid much attention to manufacturing new kinds of radar absorbing paint to strengthen the protection of their weapons and military technical equipment from being spotted by radar.
PD/RAP-MEH, in black color, is made from a kind of electromagnetic lossy material that is synthesized from a composite of polypyrrole and barium ferrite.
The paint has the conventional viscosity of 65, the surface drying time of 2 hours, the solid content of 73.2 percent; the harness of 0.23, and the bending strength of 2 millimeters.
A 2-mm thick layer of this paint can absorb 94 percent of radar waves ranging 8-12 GHz.
The material to produce the paint is available domestically and the production technology is not very complex.
Recent tests showed that the paint could be used effectively while its cost is less than that of imported paints of the same kind.
