The pageant was won by Ecuador’s Fernanda Cornejo, while Venezuela’s Jessica Barboza and Mongolia’s Tugsuu Idersaikhan were the first and second runners-up.
On the final night, contestants took part in several rounds like talent, national costume, swimsuit, and evening gown before the top five were selected for the question and answer session.
In the national costume round, the 24-year-old Truc Diem, a singer and actor, wore a 10-kg outfit designed by Long Dung and inspired by Mother Au Co in the legend of Vietnam’s birth.
Voted among the world’s 50 most beautiful women by beauty pageant-focused magazine Global Beauties in 2007, Diem also won Miss Fashion at the Miss Earth pageant that year.
Launched in 1960, the annual Miss International contest aims to honor women who have contributed to world peace and been active in the community.
This year it attracted more than 70 contestants countries.
Vietnam has been represented at the pageant in 2006, 2009, and last year.
