PANO – The Vietnamese Government's Special Mission led by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung, Politburo Member, Deputy Defense Minister, the Head of the Special Mission yesterday offered flowers at the Vietnam – Cambodia Friendship Monument in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The Monument is a symbol of the solidarity between Vietnamese and Cambodian people to defeat the Khmer Rouge Pol Pot’s genocidal regime.

The same day, the Mission called at Vietnamese Embassy and Defense Attaché in Cambodia. Mr, Ngo Anh Dung, the Vietnamese Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Cambodia warmly welcomed and briefed the Mission of the Embassy’s activities in recent years.

Under the spirit of comprehensive cooperation for development, over the past years, the Vietnamese Embassy has successfully fulfilled missions by Vietnamese Party and State to promote the long-lasting friendly relations between Vietnam and Cambodia. 2012 is observed as the Vietnam – Cambodia Friendship Year and the 45 th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic ties of Vietnam and Cambodia. The Embassy has carried out many activities to mark these big events.

At the working session, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung thanked the Vietnamese Embassy for its warm welcome and prepared the Mission's working schedule in Cambodia. Mr. Cung believed that the Embassy will continue to be a consultant to the Vietnamese Party, State and Government and actively help the search teams to collect and bring sets of remains of Vietnamese martyrs back to the homeland.
