Vietnam wins first game at AFC Futsal Championship qualifiers

Nhan Dan Online – The Vietnam national men’s futsal team recorded a commanding 4-0 victory against Malaysia in their first Group B game at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Championship 2012 qualifiers in Thailand on February 21.

Vietnam entered the match with great determination, creating many chances to score but failed to convert any of them into goals during the first 20 minutes.

In the second half, Vietnamese players intensified their attacks and put pressure on the Malaysian side aiming to break the deadlock. It was not until the 32nd minute that Quynh Toan beat goalkeeper Firdaus to push Vietnam ahead 1-0.

Just a few minutes later, Trong Thien scored two consecutive goals to widen the gap to 3-0 before Phuoc Anh passed the ball over the Malaysian goalie’s head to make it 4-0 for Vietnam in injury time.

In another Group B match the same day, Australia crushed Cambodia with 15 straight goals to temporarily lead the group standings, placed above Vietnam due to a greater goal difference.

Thailand and Indonesia are on top of Group A with three points each after demolishing Myanmar and the Philippines 13-0 and 12-0, respectively.

Vietnam will take on Cambodia in their second Group B game today while Malaysia will face Australia.
