Vietnam wins 2012 global energy prize

A project that introducing eco-power onto the Vietnamese Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago has won a prestigious Energy Globe Award.

“Wind and Solar Energy instead of Smelly Diesel Generators” won the 2012 National Energy Globe Award Vietnam for producing daily savings of six tons of carbon dioxide and 620 litres of diesel fuel.

The project, implemented on 48 islands and DK1 block in Spratly Archipelago, aims to supply clean energy to local people and reduce carbon dioxide for climate change adaptation.

The Energy Globe Awards celebrate the world’s best sustainability projects in association with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the World Bank (WB), The European Renewable Energy Council (EREC), and Seibersdorf Research Centre.
