Vietnam won two bronze medals and three certificates of merit at the Asian Physics Olympiad held in Tel Aviv, Israel, from May 1 to 9.

Nguyen Huy Hoang and Nguyen Trung Hung of Phan Boi Chau High School in Nghe An province won the bronze medals.

The certificates of merit were won by Nguyen Phan Trung Hai of Le Quy Don High School, Da Nang, Dinh Huy Hong Quan of Ho Chi Minh City High School for Gifted Students, and Pham Thanh Trung of the Hanoi Teacher Training University’s Special High School.

The eight had achieved the highest scores in the Vietnam National Physics Contest this year, Nguyen Duy Kha, deputy head of the Department of Examinations and Education Quality Assessment, said.

The annual physics competition for high school students from Asia and Oceania saw 120 students from 16 countries and territories compete.

It would be followed by the International Physics Olympiad, usually held in July, he said.
