PANO - With 20 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals, the Vietnam Vovinam Team won the Championship at the second World Vovinam Championships 2011 which took place at the Phu Tho Sports Hall, Ho Chi Minh City, from July 28th to 30th.
Phuong Thi Thoa, a Tay ethnic martial-arts practitioner brought Vietnam Team the 20th gold medal as she beat Algerian competitor, Ouiza Moklat, at the final for the women’s 65kg category, securing the Championship title for the host Vietnam.
The Champions were followed by Iran with 6 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals and France with 4 gold, 3 silver and 11 bronze ones.
The second World Vovinam Championships 2011, participated in by more than 200 practitioners from 21 countries, saw strong development of various Vovinam teams from Indonesia, Laos, France, Algeria and Iran. The Championships were considered a good opportunity for teams around the world to improve their skills for coming tournaments.
France, will host the third World Vovinam Championships, in Paris in 2013.
The European Vovinam Championships 2012 will take place in Milan, Italy.
