Vietnam will complete bringing its migrant workers in Libya back home over the next several days, said Nguyen Ngoc Quynh, Head of the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) Overseas Labour Management Department .
Quynh said that on March 7-8, four flights, including two of Vietnam and two of the International Organisation of Migration (IOM), will pick up more than 1,000 Vietnamese workers who are waiting in Tunisia .
The last flights carrying Vietnamese labourers from Tunisia are expected to land at the Noi Bai International Airport on March 9, he said.
Another plane is on the way to pick up workers from Turkey while Vietnamese relevant agencies are coordinating with IOM to bring 292 people who are staying in Algeria home, Quynh said.
According to Nguyen Xuan Tao, Deputy Head of the Labour Management Section of the Overseas Labour Management Department, t he number of Vietnamese workers in Libya brought home is expected to increase to 8,200 with the arrivals of a flight by 23:00 hrs on March 7.
During the day, close to 1,200 returned home on 18 flights, he said, adding that there were also 20 Cambodian overseas students rescued by Vietnam on board an aircraft, which landed at Noi Bai International Airport at 11:00 hrs./.
