Nhan Dan - Vietnam has set a target to produce around 2.4 million tonnes of aquatic products annually by 2020 and 2.5 million tonnes by 2030.
These figures were reported by the Vietnam Institute of Fisheries Economics and Planning (VIEP), under the Directorate of Fisheries, in its plan for utilising and conserving aquatic resources until 2020, with a vision to 2030.
According to the plan, the country aims to reduce the number of inshore fishing boats to protect declining resources and focus on developing the offshore fishery industry.
The number of fishing boats will be cut from 120,000 in 2015 to 110,000 in 2020 and 100,000 in 2030, of which 26,000 will be offshore fishing boats.
The VIEP also plans to maintain the number of fishermen at 750,000 in 2030, with 180,000 working offshore.
