Nhan Dan Online – A resounding 7-1 victory over Cambodia at Krungthep Thonburi gymnasium yesterday helped Vietnam secure an early ticket to the semi-finals at the ongoing 2012 Southeast Asian zone Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Championship qualifiers in Bangkok, Thailand.
Vietnam produced a series of attacks on the Cambodian side right from the first whistle, determined to earn an additional three points in the tournament to surpass Australia, which was held to a 4-4 draw by Malaysia in an earlier game the same day.
It was not until the 10th minute that Ba Tuan scored the opening goal, pushing Vietnam ahead 1-0. Just three minutes later, Trong Thien overcame Cambodian goalie Sovichea to double Vietnam’s lead.
Ba Tuan extended the gap to 3-0 in the 18th minute before captain Bao Quan fired a powerful shot to make it 4-0 for Vietnam with just one minute left in the first half.
Vietnam retained their dominance in the second half with three consecutive goals by Quynh Toan in the 33rd and 40th minutes and Bao Quan in the 35th minute, leaving Cambodia only one chance to score a consolation goal in the 28th minute.
With a total of six points after two wins, Vietnam has raced to the top of Group B and secured an early semi-final slot although there is still one match left to play. Vietnam and Malaysia will take on Australia and Cambodia, respectively, in their final Group B games at Kiraves and Krungthep Thonburi gymnasiums today.
