Vietnam jumps to second place at SEA Games

Wrestler Nguyen The Anh claimed the men’s 60kg freestyle title.

Le Quang Liem won the first gold for Vietnam on the sixth day of competition in the blindfold chess category while Dao Thien Hai and Nguyen Thi Thanh An snatched another gold in the mixed doubles standard chess event.

The rowing team also added two golds to Vietnam’s medal collection as Tran Thi Sam and Pham Thi Thao finished first in the women's doubles W2 event before joining Pham Thi Hue and Pham Thi Hai to win the women’s team 2,000m W4X title.

Shooter Ngo Huu Vuong claimed the top spot in the men’s 10m running target pistol event with 556 points, while Hoang Xuan Vinh and Nguyen Duy Hoang captured two more golds in the men’s 25m centre fire pistol and 50m three-position rifle categories, respectively.

Swimmer Quy Phuoc continued to shine at the 2011 Games by grabbing a gold in the men’s 100m freestyle, following his first win in the men’s 100m butterfly three days earlier.

Vietnamese cueist Ma Minh Cam was crowned champion after beating his strong Philippine rival Efren Reyes in the men’s one-cushion carom final.

Wrestlers Nguyen The Anh and Nguyen Huy Ha bagged two more golds in the men’s freestyle 60kg and 55kg categories, respectively, whilst Vovinam artists Lam Dong Vuong and Tran The Thuong took home another in the men’s doubles performance event.
