Ten-man Vietnam defeated Singapore 1-0 to go through the semi-finals of the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup at My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi on December 8.
Nguyen Vu Phong scored the only goal of the game with a gentle tap past goal keeper Hassan in the 32nd minute of the match.
Most of Singaporean players dropped to the ground when the final whistle came, having missed out on several opportunities to level the match.
Vietnam’s head coach Henrique Calisto praised his players for their good match, especially left defender Viet Cuong who accepted to continue playing despite being injured during the first half.
In the next match, Vietnam will play Malaysia while the Philippines will face Indonesia, who beat title favourite Thailand 2-0.
The first leg of the semi-finals will take place on December 15-16. the second leg will be held three days later.
