Police in Ho Chi Minh City Wednesday arrested a woman for allegedly poisoning and killing her husband, a traffic police officer, after he refused to pay her gambling debts.
Du Kim Lien, 44, was taken in for questioning one day after her husband, 50-year-old Tran Xuan Chuyen, was found dead at their house in District 6.
The woman had admitted to poisoning Chuyen after he threatened to divorce her and refused to sell their house to pay her gambling debts, a report on Tuoi Tre said on Thursday.
She said she bought some syringes and pesticide on Monday. The next morning she gave Chuyen milk mixed with the poisonous chemical.
When the poison took effect, he tried to resist, which prompted Lien to inject more of it into his body and his mouth with a syringe until he could not move anymore, according to Lien.
Previously the woman claimed that her husband had a stroke, but an autopsy concluded that he was poisoned.
Police also said they found at the site used syringes and a small bottle of alleged liquid poison.
