Pencak silat players made big contributions for Vietnam when they gained 6 gold medals yesterday.
Vo Duy Phuong, Tran Van Toan and Le Dang Minh crowned the titles in men’s divisions of under 55kg, 60kg and 90kg. Nguyen Huong Xuan, Nguyen Thi Yen and Tran Thi Luyen clinched the other 3 golds in women’s under-55kg, 65kg and 75kg respectively.
Free style wrestling added the other 3 gold medals by Ha Van Hieu in men’s under-120kg, Can Tat Du in men’s under-84kg and Bui Tuan Anh in men’s under-74kg.
Fencing, rowing and swimming bagged home 3 more golds, bringing the total number of golds for Vietnam to 68 by the end of Thursday.
Meanwhile, Vietnam’s badminton star Nguyen Tien Minh produced a disappointed performance when he was beaten 2-0 in the quarterfinals by Liang Derek Wong of Singapore. Minh ranking seventh in the world had won the Singaporean player, number 42nd in the world, 2-0 at Thomas&Uber Cup 2010.
