Vietnam secured a ticket to the second of the four World Cup qualifying rounds after winning Macau 13-1 on two legs. The side led by German coach Falko Goetz is scheduled to take on Macau on two legs on July 23 and 28.

The team thrashed Macau 6-0 last Wednesday in Hanoi before dumping 7-1 in the later leg yesterday, with the three-time Vietnamese footballer of the year Cong Vinh scoring eight of the 13 goals in total.
Vinh hit a first-half treble in Ho Chi Minh City last week and repeated the fete in the return fixture in Macau with his goals in the 3rd, 29th and 43rd minutes as Vietnam stormed to a 4-0 lead at the interval.
In the latter half, Cong Vinh added further goals in the 75th and 82nd minutes before Macau's misery was complete when Huynh Quang Thanh sealed the 13-1 aggregate win with four minutes of the match to play.
The first round qualifier marked the first competitive action for Falko Gotz but the 49-year-old, former East Germany international striker will face a sterner test of his credentials in the second round when Vietnam, 140th in the world, face Qatar, ranking 94th in the world.
The official website of FIFA gave compliments to Cong Vinh in the last two games.
It writes “Vietnam striker Le Cong Vinh set the continental stage ablaze, striking eight times over two legs to top the qualifying scoring chart.”
