(VOV) - Environmental specialists and businesses from Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) gathered at a seminar in Hanoi on November 21 to discuss issues related to green technology and reducing carbon dioxide emissions for sustainable development.

They agreed to build an environmental technology market in Vietnam that encourages the participation of foreign investors including the RoK – one of Vietnam’s most important partners in this field.

During the seminar, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the environmental industry was signed between the General Department of Environment under the Vietnam Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the RoK’s Environmental Industry and Technology Institute (KEITI).

Under the MoU, the two sides will conduct environmental research in both countries and map out plans to develop green technology and create effective environmental policies in the future.

According to a recent survey by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam currently discharged about 30 million tonnes of solid waste, representing an annual increase of 7 percent. The country requires almost VND2,340 billion each year to deal with solid waste, which is expected to increase to VND3,900 billion annually in the near future.
