(VOV) - Both countries should promote cultural exchanges and share experiences in a variety of fields to promote more substantial and effective bilateral cooperation, especially during the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2012.

General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and Lao State President Choummaly Sayasone made this comment at a reception for Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in Vientiane on January 9.

The Deputy PM briefed President Sayasone on the 34 th Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Committee conference and the two committees’ cooperation plan for this year, as well as the results of cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in national defence and security, culture, education and healthcare. Mr Phuc said that economic cooperation in 2011 proved to be more effective than in previous years.

President Sayason said the two-way trade between Vietnam and Laos over the past year is still far from matching the two countries’ potential and he hopes that both sides will boost trade and investment cooperation in 2012.

Earlier on January 8, Deputy PM Phuc and his delegation met with the Lao Prime Minister, Thoongsing Thammavong.
