The forum aims to promote exchanges on the issues related to Vietnam and Vietnam-US relations and serves as a channel for the Embassy to broaden contacts with scholars and policy makers concerned about national security and development.

The Embassy hopes that through the forum young researchers will pay more attention to Vietnam.

As part of the event, a round-table discussion on Vietnam’s foreign policy in the light of the 11 th National Party Congress’ Resolution drew Overseas Vietnamese scholars, researchers and representatives from US universities, the Department of State, the Department of Defense, the Congress, non-governmental and organisations and businesses and officials from the World Bank.

Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Cuong briefed the participants on Vietnam’s foreign policy targets until 2020 and its progress, especially in the process of international integration, since the 11 th National Party Congress.

Vietnam is an active and responsible member of the international community, he said.

Many speakers described the forum as a practical and useful channel for those who want to know more about Vietnam and the region.

They shared their views on the relations between Vietnam and other countries, ASEAN’s cooperative efforts and the process of negotiations to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), address the East Sea issue, human rights and build law-governed state.

The Embassy will hold more discussions on Vietnam’s security and development and other important issues related to the region on a regular basis.
