VietNamNet Bridge – Taking advantage of the break of the V-League 2012, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the National Coaching Council are going to meet with nominees for the post of the chief coach of the national men’s football team.
Coach Phan Thanh Hung (right), a candidate for the position of the chief coach of
the national football team, replacing Germany coach Falko Goetz (left).
After Mai Duc Chung was appointed as the coach of the Olympic team, there are only three candidates: Phan Thanh Hung of Hanoi T&T, Le Huynh Duc of SHB Danang and Nguyen Huu Thang of Song Lam Nghe An.
Officials of the VFF and the National Coaching Council are meeting with three candidates to choose the most suitable person. After that, the two sides will negotiate a detailed contract.
The VFF’s proposed salary of VND200 million/month ($10,000) for a local coach has been approved by the General Department of Sports and Physical Training. This agency will pay part of the salary. However, the selected coach will have to quit his job at his club to focus his entire mind on the national team.
However, it is said that the job at a club is more attractive because it is a higher pay and more stable than leading the national team.
If no domestic coach wants to take the national team, the VFF may have to recruit a foreign coach or find a local coach who is still ‘free’.
Earlier, VFF said that the name of the new coach will be made public in late April. S. Tung
