PM Dung welcomed his guest, saying that his visit marks an important milestone in promoting friendship and comprehensive co-operation between the two nations.
He also said he was pleased with the outcome of earlier talks between President Tan and Vietnamese State President Truong Tan Sang.
PM Dung stressed the great potential for co-peration on both sides, especially in areas of mutual interest where they can supplement each other to further their development. He also said he hoped both countries will continue strengthening co-operation and implementing their agreement for connecting the Vietnamese and Singaporean economies.
In addition to boosting economic, commercial and investment co-operation, PM Dung said the two countries should enhance collaboration in education, training, security and national defence, and support each other in regional and international forums.
They should also co-ordinate closely in negotiating the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement and promote people-to-people exchanges to bolster friendship and mutual understanding between the two nations.
President Tan stated that his visit aims to enhance multi-faceted co-operation with Vietnam, especially in economics, trade, investment, education and training. Singapore attaches great importance to its relationship with Vietnam and wants to bring it to a new level for mutual benefit and development.
He said he hopes that the Vietnamese Government will create favourable conditions for Singaporean businesses that consider Vietnam an attractive destination for long-term investments to become reliable partners in the country.
The Singaporean President also affirmed the close co-ordination between Singapore, Vietnam and ASEAN member countries in maintaining peace, stability and freedom of navigation in the East Sea, as well as Singapore’s support in peacefully resolving disputes in the East Sea.
