Vietnamese acupuncture treatment methods have been highly praised for their effectiveness in treating children with cerebral palsy in Mexico.
President of the Association for People with Cerebral Palsy Norma Anglica Delgadillo Guerrero said the association's functional rehabilitation centre in central Zacatecas state was now applying acupuncture to 120 children with brain disabilities.
Guerrero said the centre planned to increase the number of Vietnamese acupuncturists.
The acupuncturists were not only expected to help improve children with impaired brain functions but also other disabled children.
Acupuncture treatment was planned to become an official healthcare service, she said.
The centre would invite Vietnamese acupuncturists to guide patients' families through basic acupuncture treatment methods so as to avoid an overload of patients at the centre.
Mexican health professionals heard about Vietnam's acupuncture methods after the Vietnam Centre for Acupuncture Training general director Nguyen Tai Thu introduced acupuncture there two years ago.
Founded in 1997, the rehabilitation centre is a co-operative project of Mexico's central Zacatecas State Authority, the University of Zacatecas and Vietnam's Ministry of Health. – VNS
