Nhan Dan – The Soviet Red Army and people's victory in the great patriotic war against fascism contributed not only to liberation of Europe, but also paved the way for success in the struggles against colonialism in Asia and Africa.
Russian ambassador to Vietnam, Kovtun Andrei Grigorievich, made this remark at a ceremony in Hanoi on May 4 to celebrate the 67th anniversary of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic's victory in the Great Patriotic War against fascism (May 9, 1945 – 2012).
The event, co-organised by the Russian embassy in Vietnam and the Russian Science and Culture Centre in Hanoi, was attended by Deputy Head of the Communist Party of Vietnam Commission for External Relations, Vuong Thua Phong; President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations, Vu Xuan Hong, Ukraine ambassador to Vietnam Oleksiy Shovkoplias; and charge d'affaires of the Republic of Belarus, Dmitry Semenovich.
