PANO – Vietnam, for the first time, published a book about its land border with China.
The book, namely “Vietnam – China land border”, was published by the Ministry of Information and Communication, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Vietnamese Association of History Science.
The book reflects relatively comprehensive information about the land border line between Vietnam and China through historical periods as well as the present land border illustrated with maps, suitable to the international laws.
The book also provides basic information about negotiations, planning and demarcations related to the border.
Accordingly, the book clearly points out the international legal basis and negotiations which led to the signing of the Agreement on Land Border Planning between Vietnam and China in 1999.
Areas of Ban Gioc fall, the Huu Nghi (Friendship) Gate and Bac Luan River mouth are also mentioned in details with maps.
Nguyen Hong Thao, Deputy-Director of the National Border Committee, said that the book also aims to introduce achievements in land border demarcation between Vietnam and China.
Mr. Thao said that many countries wanted to learn Vietnam’s experiences, including the idea of “caring for one’s interests while not forgetting another’s”.
Meanwhile, Le Van Nghiem, Director of the External Information Department under the Ministry of Information and Communication, said that the book has historical, scientific and practical values.
He also confirmed that an English version of the book will be published in the middle of 2011 and will be broadly introduced through diplomatic channels.
A soft copy of the book will be available on the website of the Ministry of Information and Communication.
