VGP - Việt Nam has so far this year signed contracts to export 3.2 million of tons of rice to the Philippines, Indonesia, China and Malaysia, according to the Việt Nam Food Association (VFA).
The VFA has strictly instructed its members to implement the PM’s direction on the purchase of 1 million tons of rice in the spring-winter crop, which has helped farmers enjoy increases in paddy prices.
Vietnamese businesses exported more than 800,000 tons of rice, valued at more than US $553 million. The rice export value is estimated to reach around 1-1.1 million of ton at the end of the first quarter of 2012.
Việt Nam’s rice accounts for 30% of Hong Kong’s demand. Currently, the country aims to raise export to Chinese Taiwan.
In comparison with early March this year, price of Việt Nam’s 5 percent broken rice increased by about US $10 per ton.
