VGP – A series of activities were organized on Friday in various localities in response to the World Tuberculosis Day (March 24).
Việt Nam has just detected nearly 60% of the new tuberculosis patients with only 2 - 3% of them being managed and treated.
The country has set the target of reducing the number of tuberculosis patients by 50% against the 2000 figure and eradicating the disease by 2030.
Currently, one-third of the world's population is having TB, according to the World Health Organization.
The Stop TB Partnership, a network of organizations and countries fighting TB, organizes the World TuberculosisDay to warn the growing scope of the disease and highlight measures to prevent and cure it.
The annual event on 24 March marks the day in 1882 when Dr Robert Koch detected the cause of tuberculosis, the TB bacillus. This was a first step towards diagnosing and curing tuberculosis. WHO is working to cut TB prevalence rates and deaths by half by 2015.
