Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Cuong underscored Vietnam’s determination to speed up the negotiation of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement at a dialogue between ambassadors of the TPP member countries and the US New Democrat Coalition, in the US on March 28.
This is one of the first official meetings between US congressmen and representatives of TPP member countries in the context of efforts to accelerate the negotiation to basically complete legal documents within 2012.
At the event, Ambassador Cuong proposed that the coalition support the US grant of General System of Preferences and recognition of Vietnam as a market economy.
The Vietnamese diplomat highlighted the dynamic development of the entire Asia-Pacific region with 45 free trade agreements signed in 2010 and 84 agreements, including the TPP, are currently being negotiated.
Vice Chairman of the New Democrat Coalition Jim Himes stressed the importance of TPP and affirmed the coalition’s support of efforts to promote trade liberalisation.
Founded in 1997, the coalition now has 51 congressmen from big states of the US.
