Trong said the Party, the State and people of Viet Nam always attached great importance to friendly relations and comprehensive co-operation with China.
Meanwhile, the Chinese leader said Viet Nam-China relations were of great strategic importance to both countries. He said he hoped China and Viet Nam would continue prosper under the motto "Friendly neighbourliness, comprehensive co-operation, long-term stability and looking towards the future".
On the same day, President Truong Tan Sang and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung had separate meetings with the visiting vice state president of China.
During their meetings, the Vietnamese leaders expressed their belief that Xi's current visit to Viet Nam would contribute to increasing the comprehensive strategic co-operation enjoyed by the two countries' Parties and peoples.
They affirmed that the Party, State and people of Viet Nam always attached great importance to developing traditional friendships, solidarity and comprehensive co-operative with China.
Sang applauded the achievements made by the party, state and people of China in the last 62 years.
Xi expressed his pleasure at being able to visit Viet Nam and congratulated Viet Nam on its socio-economic achievements.
He took the opportunity to convey the best wishes of Hu Jintao, Party General Secretary and State President, and Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, to the Vietnamese leaders and invited Sang and Hung to visit China. The Vietnamese leaders accepted the invitation with pleasure.
On the same day, Xi paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his Mausoleum.
