The standing committee of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will discuss two plans for the recruitment of a head coach for the national football squad in a meeting next Tuesday, said VFF chairman Nguyen Trong Hy.

Specifically, Hy said, in the first plan, VFF will choose Coach Mai Duc Chung to lead the national team.
In the second alternative, Chung will take the squad for the friendly matches between May and August. After that, starting in September, three months ahead of the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup, Chung will have assistance from young coaches such as Phan Thanh Hung, and Nguyen Huu Thang.
Reasoning for the different coach assignment for two periods, Hy said coaches Hung and Thang can only join the national squad from September, when the top-tier football league is over.
“So the coach recruitment for two stages is intended to ensure the best preparation for the Vietnamese football team for the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup,” said Hy.
“However, this is just a suggested solution, which will be carefully studied at the coming meeting.”
For his part, Coach Chung, who on Wednesday left Vietnam with the national Under-19 football squad for Brunei to participate in the Brunei international tournament – 2012 Hassanal Bolkiah Cup, said his priority now is to help the team achieve their best result at the cup.
“Since I have yet to be informed of anything by VFF, it is too early to provide an answer,” said Chung.
“Moreover, I will leave for Slovakia on March 17 to take a one-month football course at the MSK Zilina club.”
