The Hanoi Department of Customs, on July 1st, officially opened the value added tax (VAT) refund stand for foreign visitors leaving the country at the Noi Bai International Airport.

Under a decision by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, the pilot VAT refund project will be implemented between July 1st, 2012 and June 30th, 2014 for goods purchased by overseas travelers in Vietnam when they exit Vietnam via Ha Noi's Noi Bai and HCM City's Tan Son Nhat Airports.

The goods that international tourists claim for refunds should subject to VAT and export regulations regarding banned or restricted products with receipts issued within 30 days of the date the visitors leave the country and worth at least VND 2 million from a shop on a day. As satisfying the conditions, the visitors will receive 85 per cent of VAT from each invoice.
