The US should enact a law to support agent orange (AO) victims, member of the US House of Representatives, Robert E. Filner stressed at a working session between him and local officials on January 7 th in Da Nang City.

According to him, the US directly caused the AO calamity in Vietnam, its efforts to make up for their faults over the past time have not been sufficient and therefore, there must be an appropriate and specific act to foster the AO victim support programmes.

Mr. Filner is the former President of the Veterans Committee at the US House of Representative. He and his fellows compiled and handed a bill named H.R – 2634 to boost assistance for AO victims to the US Congress in July 2011.

He is now on his visit to Vietnam from January 4 th to 12 th , a country with a large number of AO victims, to collect more supports for the bill and to continue the mobilisation for the bill ratification at the US Congress.

During his visit, he was expected to visit and present gifts to local families with AO victims in southern provinces and attend the ceremonies to open 3 centres for AO and disadvantaged children in Da Nang.
